Подскажите как применить прозрачность только к фону , а не к тексту и другим элементам

С приближением страницы ctrl+колесо , текст подвала ( к примеру ) ничинает переходить на другую строку . стандартный размер после приближения как сделать , как на старом твиттере в подвале с приближением текст не переходил и отступы от краев одинаковы .
