Отсутствие скроллбара в ИЕ8

В процессе натолкнулся на такую штуку в ИЕ8 (не в режиме совместимости, а именно в режиме "стандартный ИЕ8"):

Результат: div.scroller на странице не виден, хотя по идее должен появится скроллбар (что и происходит в ФФ/Опера/ИЕ6,7 и ИЕ8 в режиме совместимости). Помогает задать следующий бред (причем без setTimeout не срабатывает, и если сначала выставить меньше 35px, то снова не срабатывает):

$('.scroller').width(35); 
setTimeout(function(){$('.scroller').width(19)})

Возможно, у кого-то найдутся какие-то разумные мысли по этому вопросу?
