Несложно увидеть, что создаваемый по клику DIV не скроллируется вместе с текстом основного дива. Можно ли сделать так, чтобы он двигался вместе с текстом?

Добавьте div-у main position:relative

Не. Не спасает. А вот position=inherit для нового дива - решает.
