Граница столбца не видна в опере/ie

Почему-то опера 11 и ie 9 не понимают конструкцию

<td>левая колонка</td>
<td width="1" style="border-right: 1px dashed #167AAC;"></td>
<td>правая колонка</td>

Т.е. я пытаюсь сделать простейший разделитель между двумя колонками.

Отображает его только хром.

Разделитель становится видимым, только если указать, что колонка непустая, т.е. добавить пробел:

<td>левая колонка</td>
<td width="1" style="border-right: 1px dashed #167AAC;"> </td>
<td>правая колонка</td>

Но это приводит пусть к небольшому, но увеличению ширины колонки - она уже не 1px.

Может из за того, что нужно писать 

1px

?

ps. Зачем делать для бордюра колонку? Когда границу можно присвоить к правой колонке

Проверил ваш код, все работает в ие9 и опера 11

Проверьте правильно ли написан у вас код
