help please. не могу разобраться в чем дело:

такой код не отображает нужного мне фона в div'е:

у меня первый вариант работает. может, дело в незакрытом стиле?

Для ссылок во внешнем CSS пути на картинки правильно пропишите. Вы из css ссылаетесь, будто картинки внутри папки со стилями... очевидно, что это не так.

тыкнете мордой в мой косяк в первом варианте, чтобы он работал как второй.

Не верю(с) Еще раз сбросьте пример исправленных стилей.
