Почему выводит DocumentType, а не HTMLElement?

 

var h1 = document.firstChild;

alert(h1)
 

А почему здесь выводит text, а не элемент? 

<p>dfffg</p>

var body = document.body.childNodes[].nodeName;

alert(body)

Первый потомок документа — доктайп, потом уже идет корневой элемент. А во втором случае, полагаю, первым потомком body считается текстовая нода с символом перевода строки между <body> и <p>.
