Градиент в ячейке

Возможно ли задать фон в ячейке рисунком(в моем случае градиент).

Пример: у меня есть ячейка ширина 20%, высота 100%. Туда вставляю маленькую картинку градиента, задаю ей ширину и длину по 100%. Она отлично расширяется по горизонтали, но совсем нехочет расширятся по вертикали(или расширяется не на 100%).

какой еще способ предложите?

для полноты картины: размеры картинки 80X300, при сужении окна браузера картинка как бы скукоживается, т.е сужается по ширине в пределах ячейки, но по высоте уменьшается обнажая бекграунд.
