ps: высота полосок как оказалось не хочет уменьшаться меньше 18 пикселей, line-height и padding-bottom не помогли

В IE проблемы с отображением пустых блоков, поэтому внутрь либо кладется прозрачный рисунок 1х1 пиксель и ему задается нужная высота, либо вставляется   и для класса пишется line-height: 1px;
